(Yet Another) First Post
I am once again starting a new blog. This time it's self hosted on AWS.
Guess I'm finally learning how all this stuff works, the web hosting side of things.
For ages, my blog was posted on vontonks.github.io which was fine for what it was but I always wanted this direct control over the thing itself, and now here we are.
What have I learned today:
Well, I spent a while trying to get openclaw setup and just ended up using claude code which did the job of setting up nginx.
So I don't fully know what the web server side of the tech actually does because the LLM picked everything for me.
But I did learn a bit about configuring DNS records to point at the server.
I also once again got this sense of abstraction about computing that I find very strange. How it doesn't exist in the physical world so much anymore. And I don't know why I'm adding to it, other than out of habit. Scratching at the sides of this great abstracted behemoth.
That part of it is hard for me to fully express. Aura-less computing. I just launch an EC2 instance so AWS runs my computer.
Then I login to Claude and Anthropic does the coding.
I could just as easily not be here.
And maybe that's fine. Because one day I won't be. Nor will you. None of us will. What'll remain is a bunch of servers spinning, talking to each other, until it degrades, the information collapses. So it goes.
